Obagi: The American Brand You Need in Your Beauty Cupboard

*GiftedPost: I was gifted these Obagi products, but all words, photography and views are my own.

I know it’s been a hot minute since I wrote about a new addition to my beauty cupboard. But the truth is, it’s rare that a beauty brand makes it to the final cut nowadays. Though I constantly experiment with new beauty products, my firm favourites and longtime staples make up the majority of my daily beauty regime.

See Exhibit A: a post where I wax lyrical about Dr. Jackson’s skincare or Exhibit B: my tribute to Davines, the reigning haircare queen for my curly locks.

These days it’s only a few new beauty goodies that enter that rarefied space that is my bathroom shelfie.

But - oh my word - Obagi UK skincare - you have made the ranks.

Ironically, Obagi is a beauty brand that wouldn’t typically catch my eye. I’m a sucker for a certain product look and feel: sleek and minimalist, Scandi chic or apothecary-esque. But I’m a bigger sucker for products that (legitimately) work magic on your skin. And the active ingredients found in Obagi’s skincare range more than live up to the brand’s more medical aesthetic.

For the last month or so, I’ve been using Obagi Professional C Serum, honing in on the growing wrinkles on my forehead. (I consider myself lucky to have deterred them well into my mid-30s). And - no exaggeration - after just a week of application, I noticed a tangible difference in my skin.

Why hello there, glowy, dewy skin, you!

What’s fab is that Obagi serum ascorbic acid levels (i.e. Vitamin C) range between 10% and 20%, so depending on how sensitive your skin is, you can opt for a higher or lower dosage of the good stuff. Go for Obagi Professional C Serum 10 if your skin is dry or easily irritated. If you’re on the oilier side, go for the Big Guns with Obagi Professional C Serum 20.

I’ve been layering my Obagi C serum with the Obagi Hydrate moisturiser and this Obagi skin care system cocktail has resulted in extra supple, dewy skin - something that typically doesn’t make an appearance in the dark, winter months. This Obagi moisturiser is super thick and extra creamy; one small dab goes a very long way. I think I’d find it a touch heavy in the height of summer - especially if you have an oily T-zone like me - but my parched winter skin has been drinking this up.

Launched in the United States in 1988, by leading dermatologist Zein Obagi, this beauty brand blossomed in trusted physicians’ clinics and through positive word of mouth. And - as this new convert can attest - this is thanks to its strong active ingredients and advanced skin care formulas that noticeably transform your skin. Dr Obagi seriously nailed it.

Luckily, those of us based across the pond can now get our hands on all of Obagi’s goodness too. Check out Skinstation, a specialist beauty website that offers a solid portfolio of under-the-radar but highly effective medical skincare and beauty brands. And pick yourself up a few Obagi treats that will sort out your skin and give you that summer glow well before Hot Girl Summer kicks back in.
